Thailand in a short span of time has emerged as one of the best golf destinations in the world. The number of golf courses in Thailand and the overall quality of the golfing experience has perfectly complimented the traditional Thai value of hospitality to make it a sought after country for a golf holiday. There are quite a few well established golf destinations within Thailand and there are others that are quickly emerging as popular choices.
Bangkok, the capital city has plenty of golf courses within its limits or in the near vicinity. Some of these have already hosted big tournaments on the professional golf circuit and would definitely qualify to be in the league of world class golf courses. Most of these golf courses are within an hour’s drive from central Bangkok, so the possibility to get away for a golf round is always on.
Phuket is another well established golf destination albeit a bit more expensive and you could find some of the best golf courses in South East Asia – which include The Blue Canyon – Canyon Course and the Red Mountain Course, both of them great examples of spectacular rustic beauty with great layout.
For those not keen on adding another flight after arriving in Bangkok, Hua Hin a 3 hour drive from Bangkok Airport and Pattaya a 1.5 hour drive are excellent options for golf holidays without the fuss of crazy city traffic found in Bangkok.
Other destinations which are quickly gaining in popularity for golf holidays are Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai the cities in the hills of the North.
Many would argue that this is the best golf course in Thailand. Alpine is built to championship standards and is undoubtedly a test for even the best golfers.
The Alpine is a pleasure to play on for the quality and the conditioning of the course.
The golf course is laid out in a remarkable bowl in the surrounds of hills and rock faces.
Black Mountain Golf Club has to a small extent, become a driver of tourism to Hua Hin.
The Blue Canyon Country Club, Canyon course is a classic, having hosted the Johnnie Walker Classic twice.
The Lakes course plays through natural tropical vegetation, which makes a great day in this beautiful part of the world.
Burapha features a championship 18 holes out of the 36 holes, making it a natural choice to be played on in a Pattaya golf holiday.
Cascata true to its Portuguese name has a club house designed in that manner.
The strategically bunkered layout combined with tricky greens, makes for a strong test requiring quality shot making.
The club house is a nice play to enjoy a drink after the round, offering splendid views of the course and the Doi Inthanon.
The Green Valley Country Club may not be the best manicured golf course in Bangkok, but as a layout designed by none other than Robert Trent Jones Jr, it is second to none.
The Imperial Lake View Golf Club was originally 27 holes and another 9 holes which has been added to make it a 36 hole golf course.
A beautiful natural undulating layout, Khao Kheow surrounded by hills which channel in ever changing winds is a Pete Dye classic.
This Nicklaus gem features three 9 hole tracks – Mountain, Lake and Valley.
The views of the Andaman Sea at a property with multiple stay option makes the course a great choice with family.
Built on an expansive piece of land, the Lakewood course features three 9’s the lake, rock and wood.

The trip was a success despite the poor weather. We will certainly re-book this trip next year and I expect word will get out and we will have more players. We loved all the courses and the service we received at each course.
