Golf in Melaka & Johor Bahru

OVERVIEW

Melaka in many ways is considered the origin of the soul of Malaysia. It is not difficult to imagine why, given the long history that this originally small fishing village has witnessed during the rule and influence of settlers that included the Hindus, Chinese (known as Baba and Nyonya), the establishment of Islam, the Portuguese takeover followed by the Dutch rule and finally the British, before moving to local governance.

The history and the ensuing culture (particularly the Baba and Nyonya) makes Melaka a destination complete with character. Within 2 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, this can be a logical option to start or end a Malaysian holiday. Another two and half hour drive from Melaka towards Singapore is the bustling industrial city of Johor Bahru.

Both cities are well endowed with high quality golfing options. In Melaka, the Tiara Melaka and the Orna are superb choices, whereas Johor Bahru has the beautifully landscaped Horizon Hills, venue of the Iskandar Johor Open apart from the Jack Nicklaus designed Legends Golf Course. There are plenty of other choices in the state of Johor, so a weeklong holiday in Melaka and Johor with 4 rounds of golf is eminently workable.
