Hanoi: One of the Clearer October Choices

Hanoi is one of the more natural regional golf choices during October and November.

Northern Vietnam generally becomes milder and less humid through this period. The region also offers enough golf depth for a proper three- or four-round trip.

The trip still needs judgement. Courses sit outside the central city in different directions, while many groups want to stay near the Old Quarter or another lively evening area. The right programme balances course quality, hotel location, transfer time and the amount of city experience the group wants after golf.

A course closer to the airport may work naturally on arrival or departure day. A golf-first group may accept a hotel that is less central. A group that values Hanoi’s evenings may willingly spend longer on the road for the right city base.

Hanoi works especially well for groups that want a more distinctive regional golf setting without repeating another Thailand trip.

Indonesia in October: Still Relevant, but Not Because It Is Dry

Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung and Surabaya remain relevant. They simply need the right positioning.

Jakarta

Jakarta has the golf depth to compete naturally with Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City.

Its strength lies in a large course selection, different price levels, restaurants and nightlife, and enough variety for repeat visits. Its challenge is combining the course programme with the right city base.

A golfer normally travels from the hotel to one course and returns after the round. The question is whether that daily journey remains reasonable across the trip and whether the hotel still supports the evenings the group wants.

Bogor

Bogor offers greener, more elevated golf and a stronger concentration of courses than many golfers realise.

Bali

October is generally more credible than November or December, but Bali’s more important limitation is its relatively small golf portfolio.

Danang: Excellent Golf, Difficult Seasonal Timing

Danang has one of the strongest concentrated course offerings in Southeast Asia.

But course quality is not the same as seasonal suitability. September and October can still work, while November and December bring a more established risk of long rains and unsettled weather.

An early-October trip with four or five nights may remain reasonable. A fixed three-night trip in November or December is harder to recommend because prolonged rain may affect more than one round and leave very little room to reorganise the golf.

Bangkok: Golf with a Major City Around It

Bangkok works for groups wanting extensive course choice, dining, nightlife, shopping and different hotel categories.

The best course combination depends on more than reputation. A centrally located hotel may be ideal for the evenings but create longer golf transfers. A hotel farther east or north may improve course access but change the city experience.

The more dependable advantage is logistical. A delayed tee time is easier to absorb when the course is relatively close to the hotel and the group is not returning through a major city after every round.

Hua Hin works best for golfers who want strong courses, three or four nights and a quieter pace after golf. It is less suitable for a group that wants Bangkok-style nightlife or only has two nights available.

Cambodia: The Seasonal Case Becomes Stronger

Phnom Penh now has enough golf to support a proper short trip.

It works especially well for golfers who want two or three rounds, a compact city base, good restaurants and evenings, and somewhere less predictable than Bangkok.

Morning rounds are a sensible planning preference while conditions remain transitional. This does not assume that rain only occurs in the afternoon; it simply gives the day more room if play is delayed.

Siem Reap

Siem Reap creates a different kind of holiday.

Hanoi Remains Strong in November

Hanoi remains one of the better regional choices during November.

The golf is distinctive, the city has enough energy after the round, and the temperatures are generally more comfortable than during summer.

This works especially well when the group has at least three nights. A two-night, three-round itinerary would leave little room for transfers or weather-related changes.

Indonesia in November: Choose It for the Trip, Not the Season

Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung and Surabaya remain viable in November. The logic simply changes as wetter conditions become more established.

A November Indonesian trip should generally favour morning tee times, a realistic number of rounds and a destination or golf reason strong enough to justify the additional uncertainty.

Jakarta still has the golf depth. Bogor still offers a more concentrated trip. Bandung and Surabaya still offer something different. They should not disappear from consideration merely because the season is wetter, but they should not be sold as weather-led recommendations.

December: Better Seasonal Fit, Higher Prices

By December, Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Cambodia, Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc become more natural choices.

The trade-off is demand. Golfers should expect higher hotel and golf rates, weekend and festive-period supplements, greater competition for morning tee times, less flexibility to change courses late and tighter cancellation terms.

December may offer stronger weather confidence in several destinations, but that confidence carries a price.

Ho Chi Minh City: Stronger Later in the Quarter

Ho Chi Minh City’s wet season generally continues through November, with December becoming a more credible period for a short golf trip.

As with Bangkok and Jakarta, the quality of the trip depends on how the course programme and hotel base are matched.

A good programme may use an airport-side course on arrival or departure day, favour morning golf where practical, and choose a hotel that supports the evenings the group wants.

The objective is not to eliminate travel. Golf outside a major city naturally involves transfers. The objective is to ensure that each course justifies the day’s journey and that the overall holiday still has enough time for the city.

Phuket: Better Later, but Still a Different Kind of Golf Trip

Phuket becomes increasingly credible towards December.

The island should not be compared directly with Pattaya on golf depth. Phuket is most persuasive when the group wants a short flight, resorts and beaches, restaurants and nightlife, and two or three rounds rather than daily golf at a different course.

A tightly packed three-round, three-day programme is more exposed to disruption. A three- or four-night holiday with resort time is easier to protect because the trip remains worthwhile even if golf is delayed.

Phu Quoc: Direct Access Changes the Practicality

Direct flights from Singapore have made Phu Quoc a more realistic short-break option.

The island’s cooler, drier period generally begins in October and becomes more established through the later part of the year.

The limitation is golf depth. Phu Quoc works best for couples, mixed golfer and non-golfer groups, one or two rounds and resort time.

It is a resort holiday with golf. It is not yet a substitute for Bangkok, Pattaya or Jakarta for golfers wanting several different rounds.

Nearby and Other Regional Options

Malaysia

Malaysia should not be treated as one October-to-December weather proposition.

The east coast of Peninsular Malaysia receives its heaviest rainfall in November, December and January, while many other parts of the peninsula have a primary rainfall maximum around October and November. Sabah follows different regional patterns again.

Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi and Kota Kinabalu may still work because of access, golf or familiarity. They are not obvious weather-led recommendations for the whole quarter.

For this article, Kuala Lumpur is the most relevant inclusion: a compact two- or three-night city golf break rather than a major seasonal recommendation.

Batam and Bintan

Batam and Bintan remain useful because they avoid airports.

Their principal advantage is convenience-not necessarily superior weather.

The natural trip is one or two nights. Ferry schedules, preferred outward and return timings, golf-bag handling, hotel location and tee-time availability determine whether one, two or occasionally three rounds genuinely fit.

They are useful fallback choices, but nearby does not mean planning can be left until the last moment.

Johor

Johor offers plenty of golf and naturally works for one or two nights.

Its advantage is proximity and course choice. Its risk is the Causeway, particularly on weekends and public holidays.

For a short trip, a badly delayed return can outweigh the convenience of not flying. Johor should therefore be presented as a practical option rather than an automatically easy one.
