Golf & Culture in Vietnam: Hanoi & Danang Beyond the Courses

Vietnam – Where Golf Meets Culture

Vietnam is one of Asia’s most rewarding golf destinations. It blends world-class courses with culture, cuisine, and scenery. Every Vietnam golf holiday is more than a trip to play — it’s a journey through a country full of character.

Most golfers start in Hanoi in the north or Danang on the central coast. Each has its own rhythm. Hanoi offers history and energy. Danang gives you sea breezes, space, and calm.

Hanoi – Golf, Heritage, and Hidden Energy

Hanoi mixes centuries of history with modern life. The golf reflects that same contrast — classic, scenic, and full of personality.

Just outside the city, King’s Island Golf Resort sits on Dong Mo Lake. Its three courses — Lakeside, Mountain View, and Kings Course — offer variety and peaceful views. Sky Lake Golf Club has two designs: the visitor-friendly Sky Course and the private Lake Course, both surrounded by valleys and water.

Closer to the center, Long Bien Golf Course is a standout. It’s in great condition, offers night golf, and its clubhouse is among the best in Asia — a round here feels complete. For serenity, Thanh Lanh Valley Golf & Resort lies in a valley ringed by mountains, lakes, and forest — a breath of fresh air away from the city.

Beyond golf, Hanoi is alive with stories. The Old Quarter bursts with food stalls, narrow lanes, and hidden cafés. Try a bowl of pho or bun cha, then sip strong coffee by Hoan Kiem Lake. Visit the Temple of Literature or walk Train Street as the afternoon train rattles by.

When night comes, Hanoi’s energy changes. The Old Quarter glows with rooftop bars, live music, and laughter spilling into the streets. One round of golf can end with a cocktail overlooking the skyline — a perfect blend of sport and city.

A Side Trip to Halong Bay

No northern Vietnam golf holiday is complete without Halong Bay. Only a few hours from Hanoi, it’s a natural wonder of limestone islands rising from emerald water.

Many golfers end their trip here. Cruise among the karsts, kayak through caves, and dine on deck under the stars. After the buzz of Hanoi and golf’s focus, Halong Bay offers peace — a perfect balance to the week.

Danang – Golf and the Sea

Fly or drive south and you reach Danang, where mountains meet the ocean. It’s now home to the finest Danang golf courses and some of Southeast Asia’s most beautiful beaches.

The star is Hoiana Shores Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. It stretches across natural dunes beside the sea and is often called the best course in Vietnam — maybe even in Asia.

Nearby, BRG Danang Golf Resort features Greg Norman’s Dunes Course and the Nicklaus Course. Montgomerie Links Vietnam adds open, breezy golf near the coast, while Ba Na Hills Golf Club brings mountain drama and cool air.

After golf, unwind on My Khe Beach or head to Hoi An, just 30 minutes away. Lanterns light up its streets at night. Dine beside the river, visit tailors, or simply stroll through its old lanes. It’s culture and calm rolled into one.

Beyond the Fairways

Hanoi, Halong Bay, and Danang together form the perfect Vietnam golf route — heritage, nature, and sea. Add great food — fresh noodles, seafood, strong coffee, and local beer — and the journey feels complete.

If you have more time, extend south. The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip, near Ho Chi Minh City, is one of Asia’s best coastal courses. KN Golf Links Cam Ranh, near Nha Trang, is another Greg Norman gem — a true links course beside turquoise water. These courses are worth separate trips.
