At the moment I do not have access to the internet as I am writing this midway between Bangkok and Zurich! However, I can recall the contents of your last message just before we were leaving and it was very thoughtful of you to write as you did. Thank you and I hope that you do make it to Pangkor Laut!
Well, it has been a wonderful 2.5 months trip. Far and away the best we (or I) have ever done. We are of course learning all the time and it seems to us that we got most of it right in the sense that most of the stays were in the order of 5 nights and 2 rounds of golf. That seems to be a good combination.
So. looking at it from the golfing holiday point of view, here are my thoughts.
THAILAND. A highly developed and slick golf tourism sector leads to numerous opportunities here. It is somewhat pressurised though – “you will have a buggy, you will have a caddy” kind of attitude. But certainly a destination that is ideal for your business.
MYANMAR is not ideal unless someone wants to do the temple thing and include a bit of golf. The only course worth playing is Phlan Llaing (not spelt right I know but I do not have access to my files) in Yangon. Combine that with staying at the Governors Residence and you have a destination.
CAMBODIA is good for your purposes, particularly at AngkorWat where you have numerous hotel options.
VIETNAM is becoming a replica of Thailand in the golfing market. Da Nang is quite outstanding – two wonderful courses with a third coming on stream plus the delights of Hoi An in the evening.
SABAH is well worth the trip – good golf, good hotels, good jungle/wildlife and good beaches.
MALAYSIA INCL. LANGKAWI was a very pleasant golfing experience. Although we did not play the posh fashionable courses we found “our” courses to be adequate for our needs and a pleasant day out.
For us, it really has been an absolutely fantastic trip and I do thank you for all the work you put in to making it so.
