The European Club, Dublin, Ireland - a relatively young course which Pat Ruddy (the designer and a well known golf writer) in his own words designed to create an equivalent of what St.Andrews grew to be in four hundred years and what Royal Dublin and Portmarnock did in a hundred years! What he has achieved is to create is one of Ireland's best designed and satisfying links which is modern and yet traditionally Irish. The European Club golf course is a superb challenge which plays about 7500 yards from the back tees with a whole bag of par 5s (eight of them!). An additional interesting feature is the couple of extra holes 8A and the memorable 12A which probably has the longest green in the world with a whole 126 yards to putt! For all the course’s glory, the clubhouse is probably the most modest one could find anywhere in the world where until sometime back one couldn't even get a beer – anyway, who’s there for the beer!
