For a golf course which opened nearly 120 years ago in 1895, it is quite an oddity for the St.Andrews New Course to be called the “new” course. Beyond this oddity, it is unfortunate that the New Course, for the excellent links course it is, it’s true qualities are generally discovered on a compromise that one makes to play here after giving up on getting on to the Old Course. Had the New Course been standing by itself, there’d be a bee-line for it, just as there is for the other celebrated golf courses.
