The city of angels continues to cast its spell on any tourist, be it a first time visitor or a many times over returning one. The streets of Bangkok are always alive and enticing - with the multiple avenues of street shopping, kerbside food, bars and nightlife. As it turns out almost half the population makes its living selling food or stuff on the streets.
There is plenty to see and be bowled over by, especially on the banks of the Chao Phraya River – including The Grand Palace and The Temple of the Emerald Buddha. If your visit is timed right, you can have the opportunity of seeing the Royal Barges in full procession – a truly mesmerising experience.
The exceptional and often unnoticed thing about Bangkok is the golf infrastructure in and around the city. There are close to a whopping 70 golf courses in and around the city and usually they are all relatively busy and on weekends it is almost impossible to get a tee time. This speaks volumes of the local golfing culture in Bangkok. There is a wide range of style and budget of courses to pick from and constantly there are newer ones emerging on the scene, so it helps to plan on the kind of course you’d ike to play. Many of the courses are at some distance from the city centre, so one of the factors in deciding the course is travel time back & forth. Top drawer choices include Thai Country Club, Alpine Golf Club, and Navatanee and there are some critics’ choices such as Lam Luk Ka, Suwan, and Green Valley. New courses that have emerged on the scene include Riverdale, a Schmitt & Curley design that has been carved out on a river bed and Royal Gems Golf City, which will be a 63 hole layout, of which 18 have recently opened and feature replicas of famous holes from courses around the world, including the back 9 of Augusta!
