South Africa offers multiple destinations and a variety of things to both see and do to both the traveller and vacationer. In addition to what one can see and do, there is plenty to experience as South Africa is a multicultural and multiracial country and there are as many as 11 official languages – Nelson Mandela often referred to South Africa as the Rainbow Nation.
Well-endowed by location and nature, there are few countries that can boast of what South Africa offers – an almost 3000 km coastline with some pristine sandy beaches, the Kgalagadi deserts, the lush green reserves of Tsitsikamma and a range of wildlife that is second to none in the continent. The vibrancy and nightlife of Cape Town, the Spectacular Garden Route and whale watching near Hermanus, The Big 5 at the Kruger National Park are just the known tips of the iceberg. South Africa has more than 500 golf courses, some of which amongst the very best in the world. It is no surprise that major winners such as Gary Player, Bobby Locke, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Shwartzel all belong to South Africa.
You can visit South Africa at anytime of the year. The holiday season peaks from Christmas through January and most hotels are overbooked at these times. Based on which part of South Africa you are visiting, climatic conditions can change a little bit.
Cape Town, Winelands & Garden Route: You can visit Cape Town & the Winelands at anytime of the year as the temperatures are quite pleasant through most of the year. The dry summer months run from end of October to April. The Temperatures are highest during December & January and it is also the peak busy season during this time. The winter months are from June to August where the temperatures fall to around 16 degrees and this is also the time the region receives the most rainfall. Garden Route can be visited anytime during the year too with the ideal months being between February to April. The Whale Watching season begins in July and runs thru to October.
Sun City: Sun City in the true sense can be visited anytime in the year. With year round sunshine and pleasant temperatures, you are bound to enjoy yourself any time you go there. The peak season is however during the summer months of December & January and there could be occasional afternoon thunderstorms. The winter months are cool and less crowded. The nights could however get quite cold in the months of June & July.
Kruger: Kruger can be visited anytime in the year. It has two distinct seasons each with a distinct experience making it an year round destination. The winter months from May to October are considered the best months to visit Kruger as animals are easier to view during this time and the weather is pleasant & dry. The summer months from November to March are hot & wet. The rains change the landscape making it beautiful.
South Africa is as diverse as it can get - deserts, mountains, rivers, wildlife, lovely countryside and beautiful cities.
